Countertops

Countertops are produced from a wide range of products. Multi-Tech Products repair materials are compatible with some of them.

Formica®: Solid colors can be repaired using the Poly-Filler followed by the Quick Glaze or MMA System to match color. Refer to the Color section to select the nearest standard color. You may need to purchase Toners to achieve a better color match at the job. Granite colors of Formica can be repaired using our Granite repair materials, providing we have standard colors matching the Formica®.

The Acrylic Filler or Poly-Filler can be used with either the Quick Glaze, Granite or MMA  systems for the color. The Polypaste and granite paste can sometimes be toned/mixed to achieve a good color match. The Acrylic filler and acrylic resin can be used as an adhesive.

Cultured Marble (simulated marble): Since these products are based on a polyester resin binder with various inorganic fillers, our repair materials are compatible for surface repair providing a color match can be created.

  • Top Repairs: Most cultured marble countertops have a top layer of a clear gel coat resin to protect the colored surface and provide visual depth. Therefore, the use of a colored repair material on the top, clear surface would result in shadowing and a poor surface appearance. So an acceptable repair requires the removal of the clear topcoat prior to repairing the colored surface. Then a clear gel coat resin is applied on the top to achieve the same effect.
  • Lip, Bevel, and Bowl Repairs: The MTP  MMA, Granite or Quick Glaze systems can be utilized if an acceptable color match can be created or supplied. Check our Product Color section to see standard colors. Toners may be required to create an acceptable match. The contoured surface of these design areas makes it a little easier to achieve an acceptable color match. The Poly-Filler is ideal for these repairs. If veining is required, it can be duplicated using the procedures demonstrated in marble spa repair. This requires the use of an air brush, and you may need to practice before tackling this type of repair. We also have a spa repair video that can be purchased for training in this procedure.
